10am - 3pm | SUMMER HOP: TALKS (£10/ £15)

10:00 Arrival and a cuppa

Turn up any time between 10:00 and 10:30 to get yourself signed-in and settled ready for the day. If you can, leave enough time to grab a cuppa before the first session!

We are hosting an exhibition - Raging! - so you can check that out, too.

10:30 Introduction: What the hell is going on with women and beer in the UK?

With Annabel Smith and Inka Kosonen.

We have two superb new pieces of research to share with you.

The Gender Pint Gap: Revisited by Dea Latis is a deep-dive into women’s relationships with beer today. It’s an extensive report presenting findings from a new YouGov study and it references back to the original study released in 2018, The Gender Pint Gap. Founder of Dea Latis, Annabel Smith, will present the key headlines and will share some of the behind-the-scenes conversations and notable discoveries that came from the research project.

Inka Kosonen is a final year PhD candidate at Loughborough University with interests in gender equality, alternative organisations and craft beer. Inka will share highlights of her research as she prepares to submit her final doctoral thesis titled 'Making the British craft beer industry more inclusive: A pragmatist inquiry into gender inequalities'.

11:30 Roundtable: The UK beer industry is failing women. How can we drive real change?

We’ve gathered together a group of brilliant, passionate, thought-leading women working in the UK beer industry and we’re going to ask them to discuss the latest research. In particular, we want to hear what the biggest worry is for them, what their own experiences are, how they personally feel about the current situation, why it matters, and - perhaps most importantly - what they believe the way forward needs to look like, and who needs to lead the way.

Our roundtable guests are:

  • Rachel Auty | Founder of Women On Tap CIC and Marketing Consultant

  • Isobel Cameron | Digital Marketing Coordinator for Rooster’s Brewing Co.

  • Lauren Gilbert | Deputy General Manager at The Head of Steam, Leeds Park Row

  • Heather Griffin | General Manager at Northern Monk Refectory LDS

  • Jessica Mason | Beer and Features Editor at The Drinks Business

  • Bex Painter | Creative Lead at Thornbridge Brewery

  • Catherine Webber | Business Development Manager at Attic Brew Co.

  • Katie Wynne | Events & Marketing Coordinator at Thornbridge Brewery

We’re looking forward to a juicy discussion and the inspiration that comes from it.

12:30 Lunch

We network, we chat about the day so far, we chill, we eat. Hell, we might even have a beer, who knows!

13:30 WOT Topics

We’ve put together some short TED-style talks on topics we think are worth more people knowing about.

  • Brewery to Burnout: Navigating the Hops & Challenges of Women in Beer

By Fiona Kearns, Business Psychologist, Kearns Consultancy

As Women in Beer, dealing with burnout in a masculine environment adds an additional dimension that requires intentional strategies to maintain well-being and prevent exhaustion. In this interactive laser-focused session we discuss the top 3 warning signs of burnout so you can skip a round of burnout and craft your own version of success.

  • 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯: 𝘉𝘦𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘉𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘔𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘦

With Charlotte Cook, Head Brewer at Coalition, Beer Writer, and Women in Beer Mentor

Charlotte will tell us about the Women in Beer Mentorship Programme, how it works, what’s involved, and how it’s positively impacting women across the industry.

  • We Are Raging: The Artists Behind the Rage

With Grace Wilkinson and Sarah Oglesby, makers of ‘Raging!’

Raging! is a photography project that sticks two fingers up to women+ being seen and not heard. This vibrant, punchy and ironic commentary on societal expectation establishes a space where women+ can be loud, outrageous and angry about the things that affect us on a daily basis.

In this short talk, Grace and Sarah talk about the project, including their development of the idea with some behind the scenes anecdotes. We'll take a look at some of the focus topics, and we find out where their own rage came from to begin with.

14:30 Break

A quick chance to grab moment (and a beer!) before we wrap up the main part of the day.

14:45 Closing words: This time has to be different.

Women On Tap CIC founder, Rachel Auty, and Dea Latis founder, Annabel Smith, will share some closing words with reference to a new manifesto, developed by Dea Latis. This is a 10-point guide on practical things we can all do to take action and steer the ship in the right direction - for the sake of the future health of the UK beer industry.

Limited Barthhaas-subsidised tickets are available for just £10. Standard tickets are £15.

All tickets include access to all talks and networking opportunities, tea, coffee and biscuits through the day, a light lunch, and a complimentary beer.

This section is open to all. We especially urge representatives from across breweries and bars and other hospitality settings to attend, particularly those who can influence change within their organisation and the wider industry.
