Global Women’s Day Brewing Event Set to Return in 2025
We at Women On Tap CIC are thrilled to announce that we are the new organisers of the International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day (IWCBD). After a year-long pause, this global initiative will return in 2025 with the theme UNITE SOCIETY.
We are proud to welcome the Society of Independent Brewers and Associates (SIBA) as the campaign’s headline sponsor. Additional support has been pledged from Simpsons Malt, and WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) has joined us as an Education Partner.
IWCBD, originally founded in 2014 by Sophie de Ronde, Burnt Mill Head Brewer, encourages women in the beer industry, homebrewers, and local communities to collaborate and create new beers in celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD). From its inception through 2023, the campaign provided a central platform to connect IWD brewing projects across the globe. While many International Women’s Day brewing events took place in 2024, there was no unified IWCBD campaign. We are stepping in to coordinate and publicise the initiative for 2025, introducing a few small changes.
Taking inspiration from the Brave Noise campaign, we are now asking commercial breweries to commit to a donation to a non-profit women’s organisation or group as part of their IWCBD participation. The suggested minimum donation is £100, though breweries can alternatively donate a percentage of profits from their IWD beer sales beyond the minimum amount.
As our Founder, Rachel Auty, explains, it’s essential for initiatives like IWCBD to create a lasting impact:
“IWCBD is a brilliant project, and there's an opportunity to capitalize on its legacy by driving tangible support for the causes and campaigns that work hard to make the beer industry more diverse and inclusive, and in turn, commercially resilient. With the main theme for International Women’s Day 2025 being #AccelerateAction, and a call-to-action for all IWD 2025 events to include an element of women-focused fundraising, we believe we can help generate thousands of pounds to enable more of this vital work.”
We invite participating breweries to support a cause that is local, personal, or known to them—so long as it is a relevant non-profit women’s cause. To assist those seeking inspiration, we will also provide a suggested list of organisations and will launched a sign-up form to invite nominations for this list.
Through this campaign, we aim to champion not only the breweries but also the causes they support, bringing more visibility to the mission of creating a more inclusive beer industry.
Sophie de Ronde, IWCBD’s founder and the creator of the 2025 theme, has shared her confidence in us to lead this initiative forward:
“After a year off planning and organising IWCBD, I am delighted to have been in discussions with Rachel at Women On Tap, who is now leading the coordination of the long-established event. IWCBD has been a passion project and achieved all that it was set up to achieve. It was and always will be an autonomous event encouraging women and other minorities to get involved with beer. WOT has achieved great things since its establishment in 2017, and I am thrilled that they want to continue with the initiative and take it to the next level.”
Neil Walker, SIBA’s Head of Communications & Marketing, also voiced support:
“SIBA are proud to be partnering with Women On Tap to support the International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day, bringing people together to brew a diverse range of world-class beers. Our own industry research released in 2024 shows the shortcomings of the beer industry in attracting and promoting more women to join the brewing industry, particularly in senior brewing and leadership roles. We hope this collaboration will be the start of a long future working together to improve the beer industry for everyone.”
We are excited to officially launch the main campaign in early January 2025.
